Mister Reusch formed Black Cat Burlesque with veteran Boston go-go girl/ tassel-twirler extraordinaire/ apprentice undertaker Miss Firecracker in 2003 as an outlet for their longtime love of horror and b-movies, burlesque, and old-time spookshows. Tired of classic "cutesy" burlesque numbers, Firecracker longed to push the medium in dark new directions and Reusch was more than happy to lend his ghoulish artwork to bright posters, glow-in-the-dark souvenir t-shirts, homemade masks, costumes, and giant monster props. The two had already collaborated on their dream project, the one-night-only "Spooks-A-Poppin Burlesque Horror Show", with Clinton Mclung at the old Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA, and knew one show wasn't enough.

Inspired by their first successful spookshow, the two began concocting plans for more elaborate performances. They were soon joined by fellow real-life undertaker J. Cannibal and his partner, the like-minded horror fan/ choreographer Mary Widow. Midnight brainstorms led to Black Cat Burlesque's "Spookalicious Sideshow" at the Coolidge Corner Theatre's 13-hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon, complete with 2 evil hypnotic clown acts, rival witch doctors controlling wrestling zombie girls like "Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robots", a scientist mad with passion and her monstrous creation, a reanimated bombshell seducing her would-be undertaker, Mary Widow's infamous "Lizzie Borden Tap Dance of Death" in a washtub of blood, and the first public appearance of horned horror hostess, Devilicia.

Since then this creepy quartet have brought their fog machines and glow-in-the-dark pasties to the stages of New England and New York, performing with amazing punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls, experimental circus music ensemble Beat Circus, lounge lizards Electrolux, and the world's finest primate garage-rock musicians, Thee Monkey Butlers. By far the messiest act at the 2004 NY Burlesquefest, BCB wowed the crowd at the converted Gothic Church, Avalon, with their "Satan's School For Girls" performance to Black Sabbath's "NIB". Adding to the terrifying troupe's infamy, Black Cat Burlesque has been banned from performing at the October 2004 Vampires' Masquerade Ball in historic Salem by the puritanical town elders, even though the Festival of the Dead organizers had invited the troupe 7 months in advance! Too Wicked For Witch City USA!

Photos of Black Cat Burlesque's scary clown puppetmaster performance at The Dresden Dolls' July 9 2004 sold-out show at The Paradise are shown here.

BAUER NIKE HOCKEY STICK - BACK TO TOP
Mister Reusch was hired by former Burton art director/ current Bauer-Nike designer Win Fream to design a total-art-coverage hockey stick in January 2004. Working with designer Andrew Szurley of www.solekitchen.com, Reusch created some very un-traditional hockey graphics wrapping from the top of the stick to the tip of the blade. This scary stick is currently in production (with some glow-in-the-dark elements being added!), and images of the art will be posted here as soon as possible.

Red Cent is a cool creepy ghost story/graphic novel written by Tom of Standard Design with pictures by Mister Reusch. Set in a New England mill city much like the boys' hometown of Haverhill, this sucker has gone through endless story and art revisions, and hopefully will see print before Tom and Reusch get old and die and become ghosts themselves. Best friends, a haunted cemetery, angry mobs, zombies, a legend about a penny, and the devil all make Red Cent a winner. The latest and best incarnation of the story came together during one memorable 8-hour car ride/ editorial meeting through Haverhill and its neighboring towns (with stops at countless Dunkin Donuts) on Easter Sunday a few years ago. That's right, this story's so epic it's taking us years to do it justice. Email Tom and me and bug us to finish it by 2010.
